This four post California king is the result of an collaborative effort with local artist Pae White. It was designed around stringing series of tooling strategies that allowed the machining to dictate the decorative elements of the piece. Using this methodology, the three dimensional surface geometry became almost inconsequential, just a placeholder for the machining process, thus reveling the production. Pae was interested to see how this effect translated into birch europly. This material is a series of thin laminated veneers that distorts when surface cut, yielding strange visual effects, not unlike abstract op art.
